DC0002-4-BINDER Diving Communicator
The DC0002-4-BINDER is a portable communicator developed specifically for diving communication. It provides communication between one tender and two divers, while the two divers can also communicate directly with each other.
The communicator operates as a 4-wire system with walk-and-talk, or “round robin”, communication. Therefore, the tender and divers can communicate through the same compact portable unit. In addition, separate volume controls for the tender and divers allow individual adjustment of the communication levels.
Its compact dimensions of 154 × 129 × 66 mm make the communicator easy to carry and easy to put on a belt.
Battery Operation and Monitoring
The DC0002-4-BINDER offers two battery options. It can operate with six 1.5 V AA alkaline batteries or with a rechargeable NiMH 9.6 V, 1100 mAh battery pack.
Battery life exceeds 30 hours, while power consumption is specified at only 25 mA. Furthermore, a low-battery LED provides a clear indication when the supply voltage reaches 7.5 V.
For rechargeable operation, an optional rechargeable NiMH battery pack and a 7-pin DC0002 charger are available separately.
Protection and Connection
The communicator includes several electrical protection functions. Reverse polarity protection protects the battery connection, while overload protection covers the diver inputs. In addition, the unit includes short-circuit protection.
The tender microphone supports an impedance of 100–600 Ohm, while the tender speakers support 8–64 Ohm. For the divers, the microphone impedance range is 8–150 Ohm, and the diver speaker impedance range is 8–32 Ohm.
Optional Equipment
Several optional accessories are available for the DC0002-4-BINDER. These include the rechargeable 9.6 V NiMH battery pack, a 7-pin charger, a single-ear 7-pole Binder headset, and a 7-pole Binder headset with a 1.5 m cable.
Overall, the DC0002-4-BINDER combines portable 4-wire communication, separate volume adjustment, long battery life and electrical protection functions in a compact diving communication unit for a tender and two divers.
